I was a reporter, covering local and state politics and general news, as well as a movie reviewer, at the Daily Hampshire Gazette in Northampton, Massachusetts for 15 years.

I have also written restaurant reviews for Masslive, a regional daily; taught English as a second language, evaluated movie scripts for a Los Angeles talent agency, directed communications for a local political campaign and worked for 10 years as the communications director for the Office of Northwestern District Attorney.

I’ve been an adjunct instructor in the Journalism Department at the University of Massachusetts- Amherst since 2002. I grew up in Pittsfield, Massachusetts, graduated from the University of Vermont and from the University of Texas at Austin with a PhD in English.
